A very good Dungeon Master style game which i enjoyed very much.I struggle a little bit with a lot of modern games these days but i had no trouble playing this from start to finish in just under 17 hours. To Steve Jarman this is your best game so far and greatly improves on your previous games, thanks a lot.. Love LoG? This is a worthy dungeon crawler. There's not much in the way of level advancement and magic seems limited to using wands. But it doesnt matter. Its a great crawler, I'm loving it.. it tries its best to be a legend of grimrock or monkeys of heroes tavern but fails a little, iam not saying it wont pass the time just its not in the same class as the legend of grimrock, i would say give it a try but dont expect to much from it. Controls are bad. Sound is bad. Its just not that good of a game.. Not DM, Not EOB, Not LOG.Pros:Looks Nice. The environment is dungeon like, while the walls are fairly nondescript and repetative they still crafted well enough to keep the atmosphere intact. The same can be said for the tiles, chains, torches and other asthetic adornments. The monsters are smooth, well articulated and rounded with an ounce of cuteness that gives a warm feel to the game, even when being gouged to death.Simple. I don't mean that in terms of depth but in ease of use, as in a few clicks and you are away. The character generation is neither bogged down in comnplex choices nor overly cumbersome. While I do enjoy character creation that is complex and deep, I don't feel it is necessary to the enjoyment of a game every time. Games like Wizardry 8 for example, while in this genre, would terrify someone not familiar with such games, whereas this one would not. Sometimes all that is needed to build a bond between you and your party are names that mean something or are fun. I went with 'Bob, Robert, Bobby Sue and Bobette.'Nostalgia. It's clear that the creator loves the genre and has had some experience of the classics. There are touches of many other games in here for both the more recent convert to the old school. As mentioned in another review the sound of the Amiga hard drive will make some chuckle and others scratch their heads.Cons:While there are many small things most of them nuances that vary from game to game and just take getting used to. The only real issue I had, and unfortunately it is a really big one, is the lag. There is a distinct lag in combat that means that you are unable to be as nimble as you can in other games. In fact even the original Dungeon Master, made three decades ago, allowed more freedom of movement. I found myself repeatedly hitting a direction key, while being attacked, but the party seemed unable to move. Had my computer been old or obselete I may have been able to pin it on that. but it is not. Also the fact that outside of combat I did not have the issue means that it is an integral problem.*UPDATE*Since writing this the Developer commented that the combat issue is by design. Once you have commited to cmbat you are bound for a certain time. While annoying it does get around the 'tricks,' in other games where you could simple walk around a monster and hit it repeatedly. All you needed was four squares. Because of this revelation I am going to change my review from not recommended to recommedned. Knowing that this is deleiberate, and more realistic, makes the game more enjoyable. Now I know that if I am not ready to fight, I need to run until I am. So there you have it. Pretty, nostalgic but very hard early on. This is definately for those that like a challenge.. I have just completed The Deep Paths: Labyrinth of Adokost in 09.21 hours. I had a great time playing this game. It reminded me of the Amiga games Crystal Dragon and Black Crypt which in turn descends from the father Dungeon Master. The game features good graphics, excellent title music and ok sound effects. The game is simple to play with no advanced features whatsoever. You don´t need to keep track of food or water. There are essentially no magic in the game except a few magical wands for the mages. There are a limited set of weapons and items but the dungeon floors are excellent with logical and puzzle challenges on every level. They are not too hard. Much easier than in Grimrock for example but enough to not let this game only be hack´n slash. The combat might be a bit slow but by using backstab tactics in a 2x2 square room you can kill anything. I will write a reviev of this game on my blog on crpgrevisited.blogspot.com so check it out for more details but for now. It goes highly recommended and has very good price point. I never had any problems with bugs. If you are looking for advanced character builds or skill trees, this is not the game.. If your hard up for a Dungeon Masterish feeling you may like this.Keep these things in mind before buying. No resting. At least no way I have ever found. You need to just sit there and wait for health and mana to come back.Clunky combat and not balanced at all. A bat or rat can very easily wipe the whole party. And if you get more than one at a time or right after each other your screwed.. The Combat really takes some getting used to. Biggest problem is your locked out of movement untill everone in the party has recovered from an attack. I MUCH prefer the combat in the Grimrock series.I am NOT recommending, due to constant crashes and loss of save data.
